Tapteil Vineyard

AVA: Red Mountain
Manager
: Larry Pearson

Established in 1985, Tapteil is a 25-acre vineyard known for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The vineyard is located at the top of Red Mountain’s Sunset Road with an expansive view of the Yakima Valley. To understand the Red Mountain AVA is to know Tapteil. This is Washington’s smallest appellation, formed by a series of cataclysmic Ice Age floods that moved across the region more than 10,000 years ago, carving out the area’s soft slopes and depositing deep layers of predominantly silt loam as the waters receded.Red Mountain is also Washington’s warmest AVA, though notably the wines have significantly higher acids than are usually found in a region this warm. Low annual yields, typically just two tons per acre, distinguish Tapteil. Cabernet Sauvignon from here has uncommon richness, and the wine’s concentration of color and structure is a standout.
